THE MAKING OF A PAINTING

It starts with coffee.

The medium isn't a metaphor. Wendy paints with brewed coffee, building each image with washes, shadows, and variations in its warm natural tones.

Atlantic Coffee Spill, a painting made using real coffee
01 / THE MEDIUM

A familiar ingredient.
An unfamiliar canvas.

Working in a range of coffee concentrations, Wendy builds depth from the palest transparent wash to rich dark passages. The result is recognizably hers: earthy, warm, detailed, and always a little unexpected.

Her subjects move freely between Newfoundland landscapes, animals, intimate moments and imaginative compositions. The coffee is a thread connecting them all.
